Itzhak Perlman!
Itzhak Perlman was born in Tel Aviv, Israel August 31, 1945. Itzhak studied at the Tel Aviv
Schulamit Academy with Rivka Goldgart. He later trained at the Julliard School in New York with Ivan Galamian and Dorothy DeLay.
He made a now-famous appearance on the Ed Sullivan show in 1958. He was 13 years old and played the
Flight of the Bumble Bee.
He won a Grammy in 1991 for his EMI Classics recording of Shostakovich's 1st Concerto and the Glazunov Concerto.
The most recent Grammy was in 1996 for The American Album with the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
He won the prestigious Leventritt Competition in 1964 making the newspapers because while he was backstage after the awards his
Guarnerius del Gesu that had been loaned to him by Julliard was stolen. It was found in a pawn shop and returned.
Itzhak Perlman joined the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra for concerts in Warsaw and Budapest in 1987. He joined the Israel Philharmonic for performances in the Soviet Union in 1990 and China and India in 1994.
He helped celebrate the 150th anniversary of Tchaikovsky's birth in a concert in Leningrad.
In 1993 the Boston Symphony with Yo-Yo Ma, Frederica von Stade, Rudolf Firkusny, and Itzhak Perlman performed in a tribute to Dvorák in Prague
Itzhak has massive hands and this allows him to reach around the positions on a violin with great dexterity.
He has a wonderful ear for both intonation and musicality.
He sits to play, due to having had polio as a child of four, but this in no way hampers his bow arm. He can produce a seamless sound.
He has a many colored palette of vibrato. He does not imitate others. He has his own styles of playing
his interpretations of the music.
Violinist Perlman teaches young music students - with the same energy, dedication and mastery that audiences have come to expect from him on stage.
In this phase of his career, Itzhak Perlman has turned his attention to the next generation of musicians. The Perlman Music Program in Easthampton, New York, was started by Toby Perlman. It provides Students a place to get instruction from top level musicians. It gives students a haven to discuss music with other young musicians. The students range in age from
11 to 18. They ar trying to give virtuosos vioin students a nurturing environment in which to learn their music and spend time with others interested in the same things.
Itzhak is a new member of the Juilliard School faculty Juilliard School faculty for the 1999-2000 season.
Perlman is also one of the most prolific and versatile recording artists of his time. His family is very important in his life. He lives in New York City with his wife, Toby, also a violinist, and their 5 children, Noah, Navah, Rami, Leora, and Ariella.
Rami sang in the Met Opera Childrens' Chorus. He once was a guest on the Frugal Gormet Television program, he has an interest in cooking.

Earlier in his career, Perlman played on a Carlo Bergonzi violin which had also belonged to Fritz Kreisler.
Perlman's del Gesu is known as the Sauret, and dates from about 1743.
Perlman first had the 1714 Stradivari "General Kyd" which he sold in mid-1980s and acquired the 1714 "Soil" Strad in 1986 from Lord Yehudi Menuhin.
