This is a useful resource. I think it is worth pointing out, however, that Rodolphe Kreutzer only wrote 40 of the 42 Etudes published under his name.

This is supported by the first edition from 1796 which Professor Martin Jarvis located in the Bibliothèque nationale de France.

The copy Jarvis examined was inscribed with the name of Pierre Baillot, a colleague of Kretzer's at the Paris Conservatoire and co-author with him and Pierre Rode of "Méthode de Violon".

As Jarvis found, what had been published in modern editions as Etude No 14 was No 13 in the first edition and No 25 in the modern editions did not appear in the first edition.

Jarvis also noted that modern editions contained many alterations and directions which were not in the first edition, and had been made at a time that made it unlikely or impossible for them to have been carried out at Kreutzer's direction.

A brief summary of Jarvis's findings can be read in his book "Written by Mrs Bach" (pp. 23-30).

I remember when Mr. Rubinoff played during a grade school assembly in Central City, IL. He told us "the richest child is poor without musical knowledge." As a result I persuaded my mother to allow me to take piano lessons. Now at the age of 59 I am again taking piano lessons. Thank you, Mr. Ruinoff for your inspiration.

I recently acquired a Francois Richard violin. It appears to have been signed by someone. Someone before me tried to clean up the signature, but I still can’t make it out. There have been some modern replacement parts installed on the violin.

Have you any idea what a violin like this might be worth? I have attached some photos.

Hi Sheila, I have my Grandfathers old H. Clotelle's fiddle and Bausch Bow...The fiddle has the old carrying case,[ bad shape ], The fiddle,violin?;has no strings,......I sure would like to know more about Grampa's fiddle that he played for me, as a child........Karl L. Fausett

nice site. one thing though may be wrong in your history... I have several pieces of Rubinoff history. one of the little die cut paper violins with his autograph, a 1946 program from a concert at Mcalester high school, McAlester Ok., as well as an accounting sheet of the concert. The concert was put on by Beta Sigma Phi, this accounting shows he received 365.00 for the Matinee and 678.00, for the evening performance. so all his school concerts were not free. It shows after all expenses the sorority
cleared $22.14. If anyone would like to see them I'll upload some photos if that is possible here. Ron
