Rachel Barton Pine
Music can be all things to all persons.
It is like a great dynamic sun in the center of a solar system
which sends out its rays and inspiration in every direction....
Music makes us feel that the heavens open and a divine voice calls.
Something in our souls responds and understands.
-Leopold Stokowski
Rachel Barton Pine is from Chicago. She began learning to play the violin when she was 3 years old. When she was only four years she performed with the Chicago String Ensemble and gave her earliest performance with the Chicago Symphony at ages 10. Rachel was home schooled and this allowed her many hours to practice the violin.
She has performed the complete Paganini Caprices and the Bach Sonatas and Partitas in live broadcasts on WFMT Radio. She enjoys performing chamber music and has been a guest artist with such groups as the Chicago Baroque Ensemble and the Pacifica String Quartet.
Her teachers were Roland and Almita Vamos and she has studied with Ruben Gonzalez, Werner Scholz and Elmira Darvarova.
She plays the "ex-Lord Coke" Joseph Guarnerius del Gesu 1744 on generous loan from the Fazenda Iparanga Guaranesia/MG, Brazil.
